Sometimes the weather just doesn’t want to play the game but being cosied up inside a remote hut in the middle of New Zealand’s South Island mountains isn’t so bad.

It rained hard, snowed a bit on the hills, we all got absolutely soaking wet but we had a lot of fun producing this styled shoot and still got some amazing shots of our wonderful models; Katie + Richie who braved the freezing cold winds + rain. We can’t thank you enough!

Dancing barefoot in the beech forest and rain, warming up by a toasty fire, eating delicious snacks + laughing a lot is a great way to spend a wet afternoon!

Our idea behind this shoot was a wild winter mountain elopement in the mountains near Lake Wanaka. An escape from the normal places wedding photography takes places in the Wanaka and Southern Lakes areas. And we couldn’t let Katie’s hair + makeup which looked outstanding go to waste so we pushed through hoping we’d beat the rain but alas we didn’t.

I couldn’t feel my hands the majority of the time, had so much water on my lenses so could barely see, the wind was so loud that even my shouting voice couldn’t be heard at times…..this was a real test of my photographer’s skills! It often rains on your wedding day so if it happens to you, embrace it, go with the flow and hopefully you will still get some epic wedding photos to record your day.
